Flos Memoria (2015)
Flos Memoria fait partie d’un ensemble d’œuvres qui portent sur l’histoire de la peinture et sur l’utilisation de la peinture à l’huile comme objet de représentation. Créé in situ pour la BILP, l’œuvre amalgame peinture, sculpture et performance, et l’acte de peindre devient le sujet de l’œuvre. En appliquant sur une toile de lin une peinture à l’huile composée de pigments de dioxyde de titane broyés et d’huile de lin, Fiona Kinsella explore propriétés physiques de cette matière qui, contrairement à d’autres huiles, peut sécher (ce qui permet son utilisation en peinture). Elle doit alors réagir aux effets de la gravité sur les accumulations de peinture fluide
Les œuvres de Fiona Kinsella ont été exposées au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Europe. L’artiste est boursière du Conseil des arts du Canada et est récipiendaire du City of Hamilton Arts Award for Visual Arts en 2014. Elle est aussi co-directrice de la rédaction du magazine Hamilton Arts & Letters. Fiona Kinsella vit à Hamilton, Ontario.

Part of an ongoing body of work, Flos Memora engages with the history of painting and the work of oil paint, taking it beyond its original use as a representational medium towards paint as both idea and object. Created on-site for the Biennale du lin, the series confounds painting with sculpture and performance, and the subject of the work becomes the act of painting itself. Using white oil paint – ground titanium dioxide pigment and linseed oil – on linen canvas, the artist works in direct response to the physical properties of the medium, i.e. linseed’s nature as a drying oil (which allows it to be used as a painting medium), and the limits of surface tension, viscosity and gravity acting on the mounds of wet paint.
Fiona Kinsella’s work has been exhibited across Canada and in the United States and Europe, most recently at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, McDonald Stewart Art Centre, Art Toronto and the Mendel Art Gallery. The 2014 Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf will mark her first exhibition in Quebec. Fiona’s practice has been funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. She was short-listed for Ontario’s K.M. Hunter Awards and is the 2014 recipient of the City of Hamilton Arts Awards for Visual Art.
