Stratigraphy (2015)
La stratigraphie est l’étude scientifique des différentes couches rocheuses et une colonne stratigraphique peut être interprétée comme étant la représentation géologique du temps. Pour réaliser Stratigraphy, Meghan Price a brodé, assemblé et imprimé sur des tissus les modèles utilisés par les géologues pour représenter les différents types de roc. L’œuvre fait en outre référence au linge de maison fabriqué de lin avant l’introduction du coton en Europe. Ainsi, des colonnes formées par des empilades de tissus bien rangés, évoquent aussi bien les armoires qui les contiennent que des échantillons de sol, associant de façon amusante la perpétuelle répétition des tâches ménagères à l’immensité du temps géologique.
Meghan Price détient une maîtrise en beaux-arts de l’Université Concordia et un diplôme en construction textile du Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal. Son travail a été notamment présenté au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Italie, en Suède et en Australie. L’artiste a reçu de nombreux prix et bourses et est représentée par la Katzman Contemporary Gallery de Toronto. Meghan Price vit à Toronto

Stratigraphy is the scientific study of rock layers; a stratigraphic column can be understood as a geological timeline. In this piece the artist has embroidered, quilted and printed onto fabrics the standardized patterns used by geologist to refer to various types of rock. The piece also makes reference to linens (the English term in its plural form), which denotes household goods such as sheets and towels, once made exclusively of linen before the introduction of cotton to Europe. Thus the seemingly infinite column formed by the stack of neatly folded fabrics alludes both to the linen cupboard and to earth core samples, playfully conflating the endless repetition of domestic work with the vast scope of geologic time.
Originally from Montreal and now living in Toronto, Meghan Price received a MFA from Concordia University and a degree in Textile Construction from the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Italy, Cuba, Sweden, Argentina and Australia. She has been the recipient of awards and grants from Canada Council of the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council and she has held residencies at Artspace (Sydney), Open Studio (Toronto) and the Scottish Sculpture Workshop. Price is represented by Katzman Contemporary Gallery in Toronto.
