Les Cozic se sont souvent inspirés du lieu où ils se trouvent pour créer leurs œuvres et l’église Saint-Joseph n’échappe pas à cette règle. C’est ainsi que Linceul est apposé dans une section du plafond. Évoquant le saint suaire tout en en proposant une version contemporaine, le tissu reçoit l’empreinte superposée des corps des deux artistes. Loin de vouloir s’inscrire comme victimes de la société, ils préfèrent inscrire des corps dans l’espace sacré, une manière d’affirmer l’art comme principe de vie. Sous l’œuvre, une série de petits canevas reçoivent des cercles colorés énigmatiques, qu’un décodeur permet de déchiffrer.
Cozic have often created their works as the spirit of the place where they were moved them, and the Saint-Joseph church is no exception. Linceul is placed in a section of the ceiling. Evoking a contemporary version of the Holy Shroud, the fabric receives the superimposed prints of the bodies of the two artists. Far from posing as victims of society, they choose to place bodies in the sacred space as a way of affirming art as a life principle. Beneath the artwork, a series of small canvases receive enigmatic coloured circles, which can be read using a decoder.
Cozic est un duo d’artistes formé de Monic Brassard et Yvon Cozic. Évoluant dans le milieu de l’art contemporain depuis plus de 30 ans, ils ont exposé ici et à l’étranger dans bon nombre de musées et de lieux d’exposition. Manipulant divers matériaux allant du plastique au bois en passant par les textiles, ils incluent toujours la couleur comme signe et comme sens. Ils s’orientent depuis peu vers la constitution d’un langage plastique où ils épellent le monde par la couleur. Leurs plus récentes expositions allant dans cette direction ont eu lieu en 2008 à la galerie Graff (Montréal) et au Centre d’exposition Expression (Saint-Hyacinthe).
Cozic is an artist duo formed of Monic Brassard and Yvon Cozic. A presence on the contemporary art scene for more than 30 years, they have exhibited here and abroad in various galleries and exhibition venues. Using a variety of materials ranging from plastic to wood and including textiles, they always include colour as sign and sense. Quite recently, they began to focus on building a plastic language with which they spell the world out in colour. Their most recent exhibitions in this vein took place in 2008 at the Galerie Graff (Montréal) and the Centre d’exposition Expression (Saint-Hyacinthe).
