Papier de lin filé, sel et cristaux de sel

Noelle Hamlyn utilise des techniques et des outils traditionnels liés aux textiles pour construire une installation qui rend hommage au savoir-faire artisanal féminin. Immergées dans des solutions salines, les compositions se couvrent de cristaux. Cet amalgame rappelle les délicates dentelles et broderies auxquels des femmes consacraient d’innombrables heures et parfois même des larmes.

Noelle Hamlyn est diplômée du Collège Sheridan en Ontario et de l’Institut des Arts de Chicago aux États-Unis. Elle a participé à la Biennale internationale de métiers d’art à Cheongju en Corée du Sud et aux Olympiades culturelles de Vancouver en 2010. La qualité de ses créations a été reconnue par le Sheridan Institute, l’Ontario Crafts Council et le Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Sa première exposition solo sera présentée à la Art Gallery of Mississauga en 2013.

Spinning Jenny | 2013
Flax paper yarn, salt and salt crystals

Noelle Hamlyn uses traditional textile techniques and tools to build an installation that pays tribute to women’s crafting expertise. Immersed in saline solutions, the compositions become covered in crystals. This amalgam calls to mind the delicate lacing and embroidery work to which women would dedicate countless hours, and sometimes tears.

Noelle Hamlyn graduated from Sheridan College in Ontario and the Chicago Art Institute in the USA. She participated in the Gwangju Biennale and the Vancouver Cultural Olympiad in 2010. The quality of her creations has been recognised by the Sheridan Institute, the Ontario Crafts Council and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Her first solo exposition will be presented at the Art Gallery of Mississauga in 2013.

Projet LINLON  | 2012
Graines de lin, cabosses de lin, lin Galway naturel et teint, perles, nbilles de verre, mono-filament de nylon, polypropylène et autres polymères.

L’approche artistique de Nora Fok, joaillière et designer d’exception, se caractérise par une capacité à traduire la poésie visuelle de la délicatesse. Elle utilise ici pour la première fois le lin, qu’elle découvre à travers les étapes de croissance de la plante et les techniques traditionnelles de sa transformation. Elle l’amalgame avec le mono-filament de nylon, sa matière de prédilection, pour offrir ces bijoux-sculptures.

Nora Fok est née à Hong Kong où elle a complété sa formation en design. Elle a participé à plusieurs reprises à SOFA (Sculpture Objects Functional Art + design) à Chicago et à New York. On trouve ses œuvres dans les collections de plusieurs musées européens. Parmi ses dernières réalisations, mentionnons la tournée de son exposition solo     Cloud Nylon au Royaume-Uni(2011-12).

Flax seeds, flax pods, natural and dyed Galway linen, pearls, glass beads, nylon monofilament, polypropylene and other polymers

Nora Fok’s artistic approach, as an exceptional jeweller and designer, is characterised by her capacity to translate the visual poetry of delicacy. She used flax for the first time here, which she explores though the plant’s growth stages and its traditional transformation techniques. She amalgamates it with the nylon monofilament, her material of choice, to make this sculpture-jewellery.

Nora Fok was born in Hong Kong, where she completed an education in design. She has participated in SOFA (Sculpture Objects Functional Art + design) many times, in New York and Chicago. Her pieces are found in many European museums. Among her latest achievements is her solo exposition, Clouds Nylon, which toured in the United Kingdom (2011-12).
